Into the Forest (Chapter 5)

Chapter 5





Rex strained against the sticky web strands that were wrapped around him. He dangled near the top of a cave by another thick strand of the web. He tried to bite at the strands and kicked his legs, trying to reach the wall even though he knew he wouldn’t be able to.

“Tsk, tsk little one. You wouldn’t want to drop down here now would you?” A voice behind him whispered. Rex yelped and kicked at the air. The second in command poked his head in front of Rex’s face, than crawled backwards a bit. He was clinging to the ceiling, gripping it with his hands and feet. It grinned, it’s teeth were pointed and only a few inches away from Rex’s face.

“I guess not.” Rex mumbled, looking back down at the dizzying view below his feet. He was centered in the middle of the cavern, a few dozen yards away from any of the walls.

“That’s a good little boy.” The Arachnia said, grinning mockingly. Rex glared at it, beginning to struggle again.

“Let me GO!” He yelled, trying to swing back and forth.

“Not now.” The Arachnia teased. “By the way, I thought you said your family would be coming for you.”

“They will.”

“It’s been almost 12 scratches. You lie. No one is coming for you.” He sneered, baring his teeth, sneering.

“Not true! Not true!” Rex yelled, trying to push back the tears. The second in command simply smiled and crawled away. Rex dangled limply from the top of the cavern. Sobbing. His dad had to come. He just had to.

The second in command grinned darkly to himself as he heard the young one sobbing softly. Everything was going according to plan.
